Overview

The Toubkal Summit and Merzouga Dunes adventure is an unforgettable 5-day journey from Marrakech, combining the ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, with an incredible road trip through southern Morocco. This experience allows travelers to conquer the roof of North Africa before exploring the spectacular landscapes of Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley, and the golden dunes of Merzouga.

Tour Plan

Early in the morning, a short transfer takes you to Imlil, where you will meet the mule team. The trek begins with a scenic ascent through the village of Aremd, passing terraced fields, irrigation canals, and the sacred marabout of Sidi Chamharouch before reaching the Toubkal Refuge at 3100 meters altitude.

Accommodation: Overnight at Toubkal Refuge

Today, you ascend Mount Toubkal, the highest summit in North Africa. The climb is non-technical but requires an early departure to enjoy the cool morning air. From the summit, breathtaking panoramic views stretch across the Siroua Massif and the Marrakech plains.

After the summit, descend back to the refuge for lunch and tea before continuing down through Sidi Chamharouch to the village of Armed, where you will stay overnight in a guesthouse.

After breakfast, depart by vehicle through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m). Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous kasbahs. Continue to Ouarzazate for lunch before heading through the Valley of Roses to Kelaat M’Gouna and finally the beautiful Dades Valley.

After breakfast, visit the spectacular Todra Gorges, one of Morocco’s most impressive canyon landscapes. Continue through Tinjdad, Erfoud, and Rissani toward Merzouga and the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Upon arrival, meet your camels for a one-hour camel trek across the dunes to your desert camp. Enjoy a magical sunset, traditional dinner, Berber music, and an unforgettable night under the stars.

Wake early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, return by camel and begin the journey back to Marrakech via Tazzarine and the magnificent Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves, kasbahs, and traditional earthen villages.

After lunch in Ouarzazate, continue through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass back to Marrakech.
